Review for District 9

When an unidentified space craft lands in Johannesburg, South Africa , a group called the Multi-National Unit pushes the extra-terrestrial passengers into containment zones where they work constantly, even with the MNU commandeering the parts the aliens need to revive their vessel. Tensions between the humans and the aliens boil, until a rogue MNU worker aids the aliens in repairing the space craft, and leads a resistance movement against MNU and the organization's leader. I give this Golden Globe-winner and Academy nominee for Best Picture **** (four stars). This is the type of flick that some people like and others don't.

A decade has passed since Jason Bourne turned his back on the CIA. Trying to draw Bourne out of hiding, CIA director Robert Dewy (Tommy Lee Jones) assigns an assassin to kill Bourne. On the run with rogue  employee at the Treadstone Paris safehouse,  Nikki Parsons (Julia Stiles).  Much like The Bourne Supremacy, the termination goes awry and the Dewy's hitman ends up shooting Parsons instead of Bourne which paints a bulls-eye on Dewy's back.  It seems as though the actions taken by the CIA swirl around a network hack "worse than Snowden." - a sign that Paul Greengrass has what I call  Filmmakers Block  - the Hollywood version of  Writer's Block  - blowing a lot of hot-aired action sequences to compensate for the crumbling, over-used plot. Review for Mission Impossible:3

From the director of Star Treck and Super 8 comes the third and final installment of the Mission Impossible series staring Tom Cruise. In this explosive espionage thriller, semiretired super spy Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his team is forced back into action to save his protege, Lindsey Farris (Keri Russell). The agency may be double-dealing their operatives.  Owen Davian (Phillip seymore Hoffman), an arms dealer, abducts Lindsey, sending Ethan and company to Berlin on a rescue mission. Unlike the other Mission Impossible movies, this movie is smart, exhilarating and full of twists and turns. **** (four stars). Great acting, some parts were slower than others, but they lead to important scenes which define the movie.
